Victory for South-West trainees
The HPA has been campaigning for a long time for equalilty of banding for Part I clinical scientist trainees. We discovered that the 2007 intake were all banded the same, apart from those in the South-West. We therefore took up their case. We are pleased to report that this has now been remedied and all trainees in England and Wales are banded the same, using the same profile.
Modernising Scientific Careers Newsletter
The Modernising Scientific Careers programme produces a newsletter (details of how to sign up for it are in the letter itself). The most recent copy (March 2008) is
here.
NHS Pensions
The NHS pension scheme changed in April 2008 - details may be found on this bit of the
NHS pensions website.
Lecture fees
Things changed with Agenda for Change! We're therefore producing some advice on lecture fees - watch this space.
Professional Indemnity/Liability Insurance
The recent President's letter referred to PII being proposed to be offered by Unite (see
here for details). This has led to queries regarding PII for private work. We cannot offer any recommendations on this matter, but some members have found insurance via

Are you registered?
There has been some concern over registrants with the HPC being removed from the register without warning. This is due to a direct debit not being paid (which may happen for a variety of reasons). The HPA therefore recommend that you check that you're still registered on a regular basis, by using the HPCheck website (
http://hpcheck.org). We've not heard of any Clinical Scientists being affected in this way, and hopefully it will stay that way, but just in case...
Technologist members have nothing to worry about (yet) as their register is voluntary and is not held by the HPC.
KSF outlines
The HPA are becoming concerned that KSF outlines are being developed in isolation, and therefore without national consistency. In order to investigate this, we are asking members to submit broad outlines of posts, using a spreadsheet available
here. Please complete it and e-mail it to
