HPA is run by a National Professional Committee (previously known as the Executive), which consists of one member from each of the twelve Unite regions. From within these members, the officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Senior Industrial Relations, Treasurer) are elected. In addition, the general secretary, a full-time Unite officer with an extensive background in industrial relations, and a Unite professional support officer, are also members of the Committee. Each member of the NPC, apart from the Unite officers, works as a clinical scientist within the NHS.
